Mr. Oktay Kuru

Mr. Oktay Kuru, was born in 15 September 1951, in Sinop, Turkey. Graduate of Istanbul University in 1974. B.A. in English Literature and B.A. in English Teacher Training. Thought in various colleges, high-schools in Turkey including the Military Cadet School in Istanbul.

Mr. Oktay Kuru worked in NATO Forces between 1976 – 1993, as Translator,, Protocol Officer and an Advisor in various NATO HQs Quarters in some European countries, namely Germany,Italy, Holland, Greece, Belgium, France, Hungary and in Turkey. Mr. Kuru, throughout his career, has attended many NATO related seminars and conferences. He also attended an International Relations Seminar in Belgium in 1978. He has also worked in the Middleeast, in Jordan at the university of Jordan and also at the Military Acedemy of Zarqa Jordan for 4 years.

In addition to his related duties, we see Mr. Oktay Kuru conducting Turkish lectures for the University of Maryland to the US Military personnel during 1976 – 1985.

Mr. Kuru has got various medals and awards for his outstanding duty performance during his tenure in NATO Headquarters.

In his poems, he mostly reflects emotional and sentimental feelingsthat touches on one’s soul.

Born in Sinop, Turkey, Oktay Kuru is an Instructor of English and has served more than thirty two years in various parts of his country and abroad. He has held positions as Senior Instructor of Turkish Language at the University of Maryland, 1976 – 1987 and University of Jordan and Zarqa Military Academy in Jordan during 1997 – 2002.

Mr. Oktay Kuru, has also worked at US Headquarters as a Translator / Interpreter for the Senior American Commanders at USAFS Installation in Turkey during 1976 – 1991. Mr. Kuru has also worked as a Command Advisor and Protocol Officer for US dignitaries, Generals, Admirals, Ambassadors, Parliamentarians and Senators during 1985 – 1991 at US Head-quarters of MI Installations in Turkey and also been in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Greece, Hungary and Holland. In the Middle East, he has been to Jordan and Egypt on official assignments by the ministries of Turkey.

Mr. Kuru is currently teaching English language at the AOF of Anatolian University students in Sinop and also at the Anatolian College which is also in Sinop.

Educational Background:

Graduate of Istanbul Academy of English Department and completed BA at the University of Anatolia, in the field of English Language Teaching. He is also English Teacher Trainer.

Career Experiences:

1998 – 2002 Oct Lecturer of Turkish Language, at University of Jordan and Lecturer at the Army Language Academy of Zarqa Jordan.

1998 – 1991 Chief Instructor for the English Language Department of Sinop Anatolian College. Also instructed English lectures for the Marine Engineers of Ondokuz Mayis University, Nursery College, again for the Ondokuz Mayis University and instructed English to the Secondary School Teachers of Sinop town.

1991 – 1985 Command Advisor and Protocol Coordinator at the USAFS Headquarters for the Senior US Commanders. Advised and coordinated relations between the US and Turkish Commanders and the Turkish community.

1985- 1976 Interpreter and Translator for the Senior US Commanders, Generals and Admirals at USA NATO Installations. Also have taken several US Ambassadors to tour of Turkey for other duty related performances. Namely, Mr. Spain, Mr. Hupe, and Mr. Grosmann. And attended many of the Military conferences and seminars related with the military missions both in Turkey and Europe.

Personal:

Married with two children. Daughter Irem Ebru Kuru (Gursoy) 28, is an English Teacher. Son Ediz Kuru,

25, graduate of Marmara University, working for a British Insurance Firm. The entire family like to

travel. Still in an excellent health and physical condition. I like all the sports and I am a jogger. Non-

smoker!

Publications:

Authored Turkish Grammar, Course, Dialogue and Workbook on three levels designed for the English

Speaking Military Personnel at the US Installations. These books are also used for Turkish Courses at

the University of Maryland European Division, 1980 - 1986 and at the University of Jordan, 1998 – 2002.

A Translation Book on the History of Sinop Province, 1985. Course Book for the Hungarian students in

2006.
